Training

JOSI is dedicated to upskilling healthcare providers in techniques in orthopaedic sports medicine.

JOSI is proud to welcome our first fellow - Dr Thando Ncube. Dr Ncube completed his MBCHB degree at the University of Zimbabwe with honours as the best student. He then completed his registrar time on the University of the Witwatersrand Academic circuit obtaining his Mmed (Ortho Surg) with distinction and successfully gaining his FCOrth (SA) through the College of Medicine South Africa.

He is currently working at the Linksfield Orthopaedic Sports and Rehab centre with Prof. P Firer and Drs Gelbart and Street. He also joins Dr Street at the CM Johannesburg Academic Hospital where they manage and operate on patients at the Soft tissue Knee Clinic. He has attended the Wrexham knee meeting in the U.K as part of the fellowship.

We would like to thank Smith and Nephew for their financial support in making the fellowship possible

A message from our JOSI fellow Dr Ambrose B Rutarama

I am a Rwandan Medical Doctor and I did my undergraduate medical studies at the National University of Rwanda in the aftermath of Rwandan Genocide against the Tutsi.
Under Rwanda's government programme of Human Resources for Health, I was awarded a study bursary to do a Masters of Orthopaedic Surgery at Wits University which I successfully completed in 2020.
My MMED was published in the South African Orthopaedic Journal after scoring the second best award for poster presentation at South African Orthopaedic Association Congress in 2018.

My dream came true when JOSI offered me its second pioneer fellowship program post in Knee, Sports and Arthroscopy which I successfully completed at the end of January 2021 and currently am offering this expertise in service to the people of Rwanda.

I am so grateful to Prof Ponky Firer, Dr Brad Gelbart, Dr Matt Street, entire JOSI staff, nursing team and the people of South Africa for this training and hospitality.
Thank you
